Get stuffed.
I don't want adverts in Obs mode, it's bad enough having total twits that think they are right about EVERYTHING and babbling like deranged monkey's in Obs mode, let alone a 20 second spot for "Uncle bilbo's spiffo bubble gum"...roll eye's.

I definitely don't want to see any ads in Guild Wars ever (aside from the usual trade and recruitment spam ).

Meh I wouldn't mind 'mini-adds', like a little text message that scrolls over your screen once or twice but I would not like to wait 15 seconds everytime I wanna observe a match.
As long as it isn't disruptive I would applaud such a change. That having said: Anet would never get away with it... the controversy is too big.

Make it "in character" ads then, like "Buy XXX Dwarven Ale from this new tavern!", or "Special offer on Radiant runes! Now only 500g each, first 500 buyers only!"

Yes this is kind of what I think too and is why I asked.
I think it would be nice if there was model that allowed Anet to offer PvP prize money for as long as people play the game, rather than needing to divert money from the expansion sales. And advertising is the only model that I know that can do that. And observer mode is basicaly tailor made since it not actual part of the PvE experience.
But if they added it I think a sh**storm would happen.
Edit: Basically allow expansion sales to be fully supportive of PvE and allow PvP to work like televised sports in a standalone manner

The only reason I won't accept this is because it opens up the idea of more ads in other games. Not cool.

Radio, television, the internet, billboards, even clothing are being used for advertisments.
Maybe its inevitable.

Anet finding new ways to make money to use for both supporting the game and giving away as prizes for the tournaments would be cool, but if it involves ADs, no thanks!

No ads at all thank you very much, not only are they unpleasant but think of all the people who still have 56k connections. Those ads will soon rack up the bandwidth.
BF2142 with it's 'spyware' is bad enough, I don't want them plastered all around Guild Wars too.

This would essentially work like pro football or baseball or soccer. This sort of thing has almost always made these sports much more popular and would probably serve to grow the competitive side of GW and would also help the PvE side by making the GW side more healthy and offer no intrusion or immersion disruption to PvEers since its only in observer mode "TV".

You're claiming that ads make pro sports more popular, and it would also make PvP more popular? There's so many problems with that I don't even know where to begin.

No but the extra money and exposure the various leagues got from advertising profits once they began to be televised has certainly had a major effects on these sports.
And the ones that are poorly televised certainly struggle much more and are far more dependent on ticket sales.

i think it would kill the mood and the environment in GW. the GW world is set in the medieval age where ppl use swords and cast magic. Suddenly you get a Coke advertisement while playing/observing and that just kills the mood for me.

Please, most of us play this game to get out of reality, get out of real life, emmerse ourselves into something different or at least entertaining. Unless those advertisements are entertaining or diverse from real life, I would suggest a no.
I do like generik's idea of the Dwarven Ale though, it might kill the mood but it would remind the players : this is a game with econamy and a civilized atmosphere.
